Olympics Celebration Concert Where Men Become Boys
29/05/2012
Following the phenomenal success of the young Welsh choir in coming third in the final of Britain’s Got Talent, the world’s biggest boy band Only Boys Aloud are replacing the ‘old Men’ on the stage of the free Olympic Celebration Concert at Eirias Stadium on July 27 (www.accessalleirias.com).
Only Boys Aloud brought Simon Cowell to his feet and tears to the eyes of fellow Britain’s Got Talent Judge Amanda Holden when they performed Calon Lân to a TV audience of over 14 million on Saturday night, and now Conwy County Borough Council has announced they will play their first ever North Wales concert by headlining the Colwyn Bay event.
Olympic Celebration Day celebrates Parc Eirias’ designation as an official community live site for the Olympic Games, with a special concert that gives free admission, featuring the best in Welsh entertainment. Only Boys Aloud are mentored by Only Men Aloud and their Music Director is Tim Rhys Evans, who was highly praised by Simon Cowell for his great work with the Boys. Tim said: “Britain’s Got Talent was a tremendous experience for Only Boys Aloud, and now they have the chance to play one of the official opening concerts of the Olympics and their first concert in North Wales. A huge audience has seen them on TV, and now people in Colwyn Bay can get to see them live as part of a fantastic concert line-up. The Olympics is a celebration of youth, so it makes sense the Boys perform instead of the Men!”
Only Boys Aloud will be supported by legendary Welsh Rock figure Mike Peters who will perform a solo set; the lovely Sophie Evans, currently starring at the London Palladium as Dorothy in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Wizard of Oz, after being spotted on BBC’s Over The Rainbow; Côr Glanaethwy, the North Wales choir who came runner-up to Only Men Aloud in Last Choir Standing; and classically trained Mezzo-Soprano Sioned Terry. Saturday’s Access All Eirias concert features Olly Murs, Pixie Lott, Cover Drive, Diana Vickers and others on July 28 at Eirias Stadium.
