Our top 12 tips for exhibiting at a Trade Show

It’s time to stand out from the crowd

Looking for a unique and creative stand solution? Look no further. Here at Orchard, we have over 12 years’ experience in managing and building stands across all market sectors both domestically and internationally.

Not only do we manage and build stands, but we also attend trade exhibitions ourselves - so we know what works and what doesn’t from both sides of the coin.

Trade shows are one of the many great ways to promote your brand, generate new business and solidify existing relationships, but could you be doing something to inhibit your brand from achieving eternal glory?

Check out our inside tips on how to make sure that you're getting the most out of a trade or exhibition show you are attending...

1. Why are you there in the first place?

ALWAYS calculate the cost of your attendance at any exhibition or trade show. It is important to keep a track of its payback for you. Do not attend just because “you always go” or because “you were told there was a spare place at the last minute”. Go because it’s worth your investment!

2. Stop and think

Make sure you promote your presence well in advance. Find out who will be attending the show, write a mission statement as to why you’re attending, and keep your expectations realistic.
Pro tip: Our trick is to list 3 objectives for each trading day!

3. What on earth are THEY doing?

It is important to keep a wary eye on your competitors, especially when it comes to selling yourself at a show. What are you doing differently that will make you stand out from the crowd?

4. Give me a 'P!’. Give me an 'E!’. Give me a 'P!’- what does that spell?

Pep talk! Every morning, give your team that all-important encouragement to help motivate them as well as re-iterating your objectives for the day and how you WILL achieve them.

5. Be bold. Be different.

Using unconventional shapes, creative stands or eye-catching graphics will surely grab people’s attention and make them want to know more about your brand.

6. Be Brilliant. Incredible. Amazing. Show-stopping.

Eye-catching graphics? Bespoke pieces work just as well. Is it something that someone has never seen before? Well, they have now. Look at you go!

7. Smile and wave

Always remember to be engaging and inviting - people like interacting with a friendly face, and the more engaging you make your stand; the more people will remember it.

8. #NailedIt #TradeShowLife

We all know that people live and breathe social media today, so why not have a live social media wall to court social interactions? It also gets people to engage with your company (clever, eh?)

9. Strike while the iron is hot!

Prepare to follow-up leads the very next day – we prefer to spend an extra hour at the event each evening (until we get kicked out of the hall that is!) to execute the day’s follow-ups.

10. Ooh ah just a little bit, ooh ah, a little bit more...

Offer that 'little bit more' if you can. It can often be a good idea to offer your serious stand-visitors ‘a little something’ if it is a) memorable, b) relevant and c) worth keeping, however small and inexpensive.

11. Spare shoes are a MUST

Always bring your flats to a trade show - they can be very long days!

12. Learn and grow

Lastly...learn from others. Ask your existing customers what they liked / did not like? Ask them why they bought from you that first time and ask similar suppliers what works well for them. Don't forget to ask the exhibition organiser for their thoughts too; their interests will be in winning your business back again, so the least they can do is to tell you who attended and what their wider feedback was.

Whether you want to promote your brand; create a bespoke, eye-catching stand or win more customers if you follow these tips, you’ll be well on your way to success.
