Key Objectives

  • Coordinate the full production, artist booking and liaison, TV coverage and marketing for The Welcome to Wales Ryder Cup Celebration Concert
  • Manage 1500 key stakeholders and sponsors prior to the concert which was to be televised on Sky.
  • Create and produce two high-profile evening events linked to the 2010 Ryder Cup for VIP’s and VVIP’s

The Welcome to Wales Ryder Cup Celebration Concert

The Welcome to Wales Ryder Cup Celebration Concert was the fourth televised event that we had produced at the Principality Stadium (formerly known as the Millennium Stadium), following the Tsunami Relief Concert (2005/BBC 2), and Wales Grand Slam Celebrations (2005 & 2008 /S4C). The event featured performances from Dame Shirley Bassey, Katherine Jenkins, Only Men Aloud and a host of other performers, as well as a special opening address from Hollywood actress Catherine Zeta-Jones and the introduction of the European and US Ryder Cup Teams. The event was also attended by HRH Prince Charles and First Minister Carwyn Jones.

An Evening with the Welsh National Opera

We also managed ‘An evening with the Welsh National Opera’, hosted by the Deputy First Minister for Wales which attracted a VIP audience of 300 people, including the VVIP’s and a number of representatives of the European tour. We provided the creative ideas to enhance an evening of Welsh National Opera performances, and a dinner on the stage of the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, with each table themed as an opera associated with WNO, and a set assembled to give diners the impression of being part of an opera performance. We also handled a Q&A session with successful Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam as a key focus of the evening.

A Night at The Castle

A Night at the Castle, hosted by the First minister for Wales attracted an audience of 400+ VVIPs, including 250 representatives from the European tour, to a spectacular evening in the grounds of Cardiff Castle, featuring a dinner, a range of performances from music to comedy, and a sound and light show featuring the projection of Welsh images on the Norman Keep of the castle.

For both events, Orchard handled everything from the creative design, production and distribution of invitations, programmes, tickets and all visuals used, to the content and presentation of the menus, to the site dressing and all staffing, to the sourcing and booking of performers, to registration and liaison with the European Tour, and finally to all aspects of production on the night.

"Wales had very high expectations for the Welcome to Wales spectacular at the Millennium Stadium to launch the Ryder Cup 2010 - and the Orchard team under Director Pablo Janczur delivered superbly, ensuring a lasting image of Welsh quality under a global spotlight. Dealing with a wide range of stakeholders, on behalf of Ryder Cup Wales and the European Tour including some of the world’s leading golfers, Wales' A List stars Catherine Zeta-Jones, Dame Shirley Bassey et al, Orchard project directed the whole affair, configuring the stadium for a dinner on the pitch on one side of the curtain, with an audience of 13,000 watching the big stage, and many more tuning in on Sky 3. Winning Ryder Cup Captain Colin Montgomerie described it as a “fabulous occasion”, and former captain Ian Woosnam claimed it was the best event he had seen in 27 years of the Ryder Cup.

It was a world class event produced by a leading events company."
